Upgrade of Three Secondary Roads

Description

This project consisted of upgrading three (3) secondary roads based on Newfoundland regulations for this particular type of road. The roads located in Central Newfoundland provide access to electrical transportation and production facilities. Upgrading work included ditching operations, culvert installation, wood decking replacement on logging bridges and granular road reloading.

New Housing Development

Duration: 2008-2009

Description

This project involved the construction of approximately one (1) km of road as part of a new housing development. The new road included all major water infrastructure services (raw water, drinking water, wastewater and storm water). Bedrock blasting operations were required during road construction. In addition, existing community roads were restored by replacing old ditches with storm sewers. Trenchless technology by insertion was also used to install a raw water conduit without excavating in a paved road.

New Housing Development

Duration:  2006-2007 and 2013-2014

Description

Two (2) new housing developments were completed in less than ten (10) years in the community. The work for this project included new unpaved roads with perimeter ditches. Aqueduct and sewer infrastructures were installed underneath every road. As the community of Kawawachikamach is located at the 55th parallel, special precautions were implemented for protection from freezing, such as thermal pipe insulation and water recirculation in the aqueduct.
